class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Dzibilchaltun is located a few minutes north of Merida, and it means &#8220;Place where there is writing on the stones&#8221; in Mayan language, in reference to the numerous memorial tombstones found on the site, also called stelae.<\/p><p>This site is distinguished by its long history. According to experts, there were settlements since 500 BCE, it\u2019s possible that before, and lasted until the Spanish conquest around the year 1540. This long duration can be explained, among other things, by its privileged location, 17 km from the coast and next to an area of fertile land.\u00a0<\/p><p>The settlement covered a circular area of about 19 km2, in which about 8,400 structures have been found. The central part is made up of numerous monumental constructions that cover about 25 hectares. In the rest of the area, there are scattered architectural remains with pyramids and vaulted buildings. has a row of columns that are used to support a thatched roof, inside there\u2019s a figure of the descending god which suggests it may have been a shrine dedicated to that building with two rooms and two others attached to its west side.<\/p><p>The main entrance is located to the south and is formed by four columns. It has a shrine in the center, and used to have a flat roof that collapsed years ago that was formed by wooden beams with smaller ones placed transversely, and on top of this a very resistant lime concrete was placed. <\/p><p>The name of the building is due to the Chultun, which are excavations conditioned for the storage of rainwater, widely used in the Puuc Route in cities like Uxmal.
