The Venus Temple is also known as the Tomb of Chac Mo<g class=\"gr_ gr_22 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling\" id=\"22\" data-gr-id=\"22\">ol<\/g> because its sculpture was found in its interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stone bas-reliefs still conserve remains of red, blue and yellow paint that adorned the contours of the representation of the &#8220;morning star&#8221;, one of the manifestations of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kukulkan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kukulkan-Quetzalcoatl<\/a> most admired by pre-Hispanic cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the sunken space appears Kukulcan or Venus coming out of the jaws of a serpent with feathers, forked tongue and jaguar claws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Venus-Temple-and-Kukulkan-Pyramid-in-Chichen-Itza.jpg\" alt=\"Venus Temple in Chichen Itza and Kukulk\u00e1n Pyramid\" class=\"wp-image-457\"\/><figcaption>Venus Temple and Kukulk\u00e1n Pyramid in Chichen Itza<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Physical description of the Venus Temple<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Venus Temple&nbsp;in Chichen Itza is a base with a square floor plan more than 25 m on each side, with four staircases bordered by balustrades ending in a cube, from which a snakehead is projected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The base is composed of a slope, a vertical wall with projecting panels that leave a sunken space, and a cornice-board as a finishing touch; the total height of the base is 4 m. On the cornice board, there is a feathered serpent with fish among its undulations whose head protrudes from the cube of the staircase&#8217;s arch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Location of the Venus Temple in Chichen Itza<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Venus Temple in <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/chichen-itza\">Chichen Itza<\/a> is located in the Grand Plaza in front of the main side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/kukulkan-pyramid\/\">Kukulk\u00e1n Pyramid<\/a>, where the snakeheads are found, and on the side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/temple-eagles-jaguars\/\">Temple of the Eagles and Jaguars<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1EPvsmskOPW6HkjoYj1nDUVOmSncpHxLo\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u00b4s called the Venus Temple in Chichen Itza because there are representations in bas-relief of the planet Venus in its outer panels in the form of a Mayan Year Bundle next to a half flower with vanes in the petals; there\u2019s also the symbol of Pop or braided mat that means lordship and power.
