{"id":524,"date":"2018-10-08T17:13:24","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T22:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/?p=524"},"modified":"2022-09-17T02:44:22","modified_gmt":"2022-09-17T02:44:22","slug":"temple-tables-chichen-itza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/en\/temple-tables-chichen-itza\/","title":{"rendered":"Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza got its name because of the overlapping levels that give the appearance of plateaus, this temple built next to the one of the Warriors, is a small pyramid of four levels that previously culminated with a temple with two serpent columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it\u2019s not preserved in its entirety, the first level of the frieze is still noticeable, which is carved in stone and placed on the ground in front of the staircase leading to the temple. It shows a procession of jaguars among trees and spears. On the second level, a plumed serpent is carved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Temple-of-the-Tables-and-Frieze-in-Chichen-Itza.jpg\" alt=\"Temple of the Tables and Frieze in Chichen Itza\" class=\"wp-image-526\"\/><figcaption>Temple of the Tables and Frieze in Chichen Itza<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza was recently restored during the 90&#8217;s. During these excavations a major sub-temple was discovered buried inside the external structure, a large polychrome wall of feathered serpents was painted on the interior walls in vivid colors of blue, yellow, red and marked by charcoal lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/kukulkan-pyramid\/\">The Castle<\/a>, the Temple of the Warriors, the Jaguars, the Group of the Thousand Columns, the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/tzompantli-chichen-itza\/\">Tzompantli<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/venus-temple-chichen-itza\/\">Venus Platform<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/great-ball-court-chichen-itza\/\">Great Ball Court<\/a>, this building was built during the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toltec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toltec<\/a> influence in Chichen Itza, that is, between 900 and 1200 AD.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"width:100%; height:400px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/360\/Tables-Chichen-Itza.html\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frieze in front of the Temple of the Tables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Frieze-in-front-of-the-Temple-of-the-Tables-in-Chichen-Itza.jpg\" alt=\"Frieze in front of the Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza\" class=\"wp-image-527\"\/><figcaption>Frieze in front of the Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find a frieze that has been placed in front of the Temple of the Tables that show a feathered serpent on the top level, and the procession of jaguars, trees, and spear bundles on the lower one.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Location of the Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Temple of the Tables in <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/chichen-itza\">Chichen Itza<\/a> is located in the Grand Plaza right next to the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayanpeninsula.com\/temple-warriors-chichen-itza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Warriors Temple (opens in a new tab)\">Warriors Temple<\/a> and in front of a long Frieze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1EPvsmskOPW6HkjoYj1nDUVOmSncpHxLo\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Temple of the Tables in Chichen Itza got its name because of the overlapping levels that give the appearance of plateaus, this temple built next to the one of the Warriors, is a small pyramid of four levels that previously culminated with a temple with two serpent columns.
